Football Park
Football Park is the former home of Australian football in South Australia. The 51,240-capacity stadium played host to its last AFL game on 31st August 2013 and its last SANFL Grand Final on 6th October. Following its closure, the Adelaide Crows, Port Adelaide and the SANFL moved to the redeveloped Adelaide Oval. The demolition of Football Park commenced in 2018 and was completed in March 2019, with only the oval and Crows HQ remaining.
The formal announcement of the building of Football Park was made on December 20, 1971 and the first match played on May 4, 1974 between Central District and North Adelaide. Up until its closure, the official capacity was 51,240, making it the second-largest AFL ground at the time. While primarily an Australian football venue, the ground also hosted cricket during the World Series Cricket series in the late 1970's as well as a number of concerts.
Since its opening, Football Park had many additions including light towers, corporate boxes, two large video screens, the new northern grandstand, and replacing the bench seats with new bucket seating. The 7,000-seat Northern Grandstand was completed in 2001 at a cost of $12.5 million. The stand was built as an extension of the existing members stand, but bigger, and extending around to the large video screen behind the goals. Under a sponsorship arrangement with major Australian insurer AAMI, the venue was known as AAMI Stadium from July 2002 until its closure. The last official event at Football Park was a pre-season AFL game in March 2015.
The grandstands have since been demolished, with the oval retained, along with the Adelaide Crows headquarters and the social club previously adjoining the main grandstand, now known as the Mosaic Hotel. The precinct will
